PORTLAND, Ore. -- The No. 12 Portland Pilots cruised to a 5-1 victory over the San Diego Toreros on Saturday, extending their unbeaten streak at home to 26 matches. The win improved Portland's record to 9-3-0 overall and 2-1-0 in WCC action.
How it Happened
Portland broke the scoreless tie early when Muslim Umar scored his second goal of the season in the fifth minute, assisted by Nick Fernandez. The Pilots took a 2-0 lead later in the half on a goal from Kevin Bonilla -- his first goal of the season -- in the 43rd minute, assisted by Diego Rosas and Buba Fofanah.
San Diego got on the board to to make it a 2-1 game on Owen Wiebe's 56th-minute goal, assisted by Samy Kanaan. The advantage wouldn't stay at just one goal for Portland, with the Pilots scoring a 65th-minute goal from Sebastian Hernandez, his second goal of the season. Sebastian Nava assisted the goal off the corner kick.
Portland increased its lead to make it a 4-1 game on Jacob Babalai's 10th goal of the season in the 77th minute, assisted by Fernandez. The Pilots' lead expanded to 5-1 thanks to an 89th-minute goal from Samory Powder, his fifth goal of the season. Micaah Garnette assisted the goal. The 5-1 held to the finish.
