PORTLAND, Ore. -- The Portland Pilots earned their 10th win of the season on Saturday with a dominant 4-1 triumph over the San Francisco Dons. Portland improved to 10-3-2 overall and 4-2-0 in WCC play after the victory.
How it Happened
Portland started the scoring when Sophia Mattice scored her third goal of the season in the 20th minute, which proved to be the only goal of the first half.
The Pilots increased their lead to 2-0 on a goal from Nedya Sawan -- her seventh goal of the season -- in the 66th minute off a free kick. San Francisco finally got on the board to make it a 2-1 game on Marissa Vasquez's 74th-minute goal, assisted by Olivia Lukrofka.
Portland wasted no time rebuilding their lead. The Pilots went up 3-1 with a 74th-minute goal from Keeley Dockter just 19 seconds after San Francisco's goal, Dockter's first of the season.
Portland grabbed a 4-1 lead on Aubrey Turner's second goal of the season in the 82nd minute, assisted by Cally Togiai. The goal was the final score of the match.
Game Notes
- This is the fourth time this year the Pilots have scored four goals or more in a match, and the third time they've done so against a WCC opponent. The last time they scored four goals against four opponents in a season was 2010, and the last time they did so against at least three WCC opponents was 2009.
- Sawan's goal was her seventh of the year, making her the first Pilot to score seven or more goals in a season since she herself scored 12 in 2021.
- Mattice's three goals on the year are a career high for the senior for goals in a season.
- Dockter's goal was the first of the season for her, making her the 12th Pilot to score this year.
- Turner's goal was her second of the year.
- The Pilots are at 10 wins for the third time in six years under head coach Michelle French. This is also the fastest the Pilots have reached 10 wins in a season since 2018, French's first season as Portland's head coach.
- With just eight goals conceded through 15 matches, the Pilots have allowed the fewest goals through 15 contests for the program since 2009.
