PORTLAND, Ore. --The Portland Pilots took their first loss of the season, falling 64-42 to the Villanova Wildcats.
The Pilots (1-1) had two players score in double figures, led by Lucy Cochrane, who had 11 points, eight rebounds and six blocks. Maisie Burnham added 10 points and two steals and Florence Dallow added nine off the bench.
Led by Burnham's three offensive rebounds, Portland did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 13 boards that resulted in 12 second chance points.
How It Happened
Portland struggled out of the gate, falling behind 18-6 at the end of the first quarter. The Pilots continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 33-14 halftime deficit.
At the end of the third, the Pilots faced a 53-28 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. Portland played well near the basket, scoring eight of its 14 points in the paint.
Villanova kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 59-31 advantage before Portland went on a 9-0 run to shrink the deficit to 59-40 with 3:15 to go in the contest. But it was too little too late as the Pilots would fall 64-42.
