PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland men's basketball struggled from the field and committed 18 turnovers in a 75-65 home loss to Tennessee State on Wednesday at Chiles Center.
Tyler Robertson finished with 24 points, seven rebounds and five assists to lead the Pilots (3-1), while Vukasin Masic added 15 points and Tyler Harris chipped in 11.
Portland came out cold from the field and trailed 10-3 early and struggled to find the shooting touch throughout the first half. Christian Brown hit a 30-footer just before the halftime buzzer to give the Tigers (3-0) a 42-28 lead at the break. Brown finished with 24 points for TSU.
The early part of the second half continued to break TSU's way as the Tigers extended the margin to 21 points on a dunk by E.J. Bellinger.
Portland made a late rally as Masic spurred a 12-4 run with a pair of threes and runner in the lane to make it 73-63 with 1:53 remaining, but that would be as close as the Pilots would get.
The Pilots travel to Nevada to play the host Wolf Pack on Saturday at 7 p.m. Nevada defeated the Pacific Tigers on Wednesday night to improve to 3-0 on the season. The game will be televised locally on Portland's CW and radio coverage on 910 ESPN Portland begins at 6:30 p.m.
