LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- The Portland Pilots fell to the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks 66-65 at Orleans Arena Friday on Olivia Moran's late shot with just one second left on the clock.
The Pilots (3-3) had three players score in double figures, led by Emme Shearer, who had 21 points, matching her career high. Lucy Cochrane tacked on 15 points, six rebounds and four blocks and Maisie Burnham helped out with 10 points.
Portland utilized fantastic ball movement in Friday's game, piling up 18 assists on 22 made field goals. Individually, McKelle Meek dished out the most for the Pilots with five assists and Kianna Hamilton-Fisher also added three assists of her own.
The Portland defense was a problem in Friday's game, forcing 19 Northern Arizona turnovers. Those takeaways turned into 19 points on the offensive end of the floor. Rhyan Mogel and Kennedy Dickie led the way individually for the Pilots with two steals.
How It Happened
After falling behind 3-2, Portland went on a 6-0 run with 8:23 left in the first quarter, culminating in a three from Shearer, to take an 8-3 lead. The Pilots then added two points to that lead by the end of the period and entered the quarter break with a 15-8 advantage.
Portland built that first quarter lead to 31-22 before going on a 6-0 run starting at the 4:44 mark in the second period to increase its lead to 37-22. The Lumberjacks cut into that lead, but the Pilots still enjoyed a 42-30 advantage heading into halftime. Portland forced eight Northern Arizona turnovers in the period and turned them into 11 points.
After intermission, Portland held on to its advantage and owned a 54-46 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Portland played well near the basket, scoring eight of its 12 points in the paint.
Northern Arizona then erased the Portland lead in the game's final quarter for a 66-65 comeback victory. Portland took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring eight of its 11 points in the paint. Moran's last-second shot sunk the Pilots.

» Lucy Cochrane had four blocks on the day, marking the fifth game this year with at least three blocks. She's at 26 for the season and 196 for her Pilot career.
» This is the second straight game where Cochrane has scored at least 15 points.
» Emme Shearer led the Pilots with a game-high 21 points, the most a Pilot has scored in a game this year. It also matches her career high set last year.
