CHENEY, Wash. – The Portland women's tennis team knocked off Eastern Washington by a 6-1 margin Sunday to cap a 2-0 weekend and run their winning streak to four matches. The Pilots improve to 5-2 overall, while the Eagles drop to 2-2.
The four-match win streak is the most since the 2019 Pilots won five straight early in the year.
Portland took the doubles point as Iva Zelic and Sally Pethybridge won 6-2 at No. 1 followed by freshmen Meagan Pearson and Alaia Rubio Perez claiming a 6-4 win at No. 3.
The singles matches were highly competitive, but Zelic set the tone with a 6-2, 6-1 win at the top of the lineup. Pethybridge was up a set and 3-0 in the second when her opponent retired and then Rimona Rouf clinched with a 6-2, 7-5 win at No. 3.
Rubio Perez cruised to a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 5 and Kylie Canubida also won by retirement at No. 6 to cap the Portland scoring.
The Pilots will return home to host the Idaho State Bengals on Sunday, Feb. 26 at 10 a.m. Live video and scoring links are available at PortlandPilots.com.
