SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- The Portland Pilots came up short in a 74-58 loss to the San Diego Toreros on the road Saturday.
The Pilots (20-8, 14-3) had three players score in double figures, led by Alex Fowler, who had 15 points and four assists. Emme Shearer added 13 points and Maisie Burnham chipped in as well with 10 points.
How It Happened
Portland took an early 7-4 lead but couldn't stifle the hot-shooting Toreros. The Pilots surrendered that lead and entered the second quarter down 27-19. The Pilots continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 47-32 halftime deficit.
San Diego continued to increase its lead after halftime, with Portland never quite closing the double-digit gap between the two side. However, in the fourth, Portland came out of the third quarter break clicking on all cylinders, going on a 9-0 run to shrink the deficit to 61-54 with 8:19 to go in the contest.
San Diego responded and outscored the Pilots the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 74-58.
