No. 66 Pilots Win Seventh Straight with Sweep of Weber State

PORTLAND, Ore. – No. 66 Portland cruised to a 4-0 sweep of Weber State on Sunday for its seventh consecutive victory and improved to 6-0 at matches played at the Louisiana Pacific Tennis Center this Spring.

The Pilots – who entered the ITA Rankings this week for the first time since 2016 – improve to 8-2 and extended the best start in program history, while the seven-match win streak ties the program record previously set in 1988 and 2015.

It was a dominant effort that began with the Pilots taking the doubles point comfortably. Iva Zelic and Sally Pethybridge won 6-2 at No. 1 to improve to 20-6 overall and 8-1 in dual matches this season.  Rimona Rouf and Aleksandra Dimitrijevic posted a 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles and improved to 7-1 overall. Portland has recorded a combined 19-4 record in dual doubles this spring.

Singles was more of the same with Pethybridge posting a 6-2, 6-4 result against Megan Davies at No. 2 for her fourth straight singles victory. Rouf followed by defeating Megan Lombardi 6-0, 6-4 at the No. 3 position and then Zelic clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Ana Morett at the top of the lineup to run her singles win streak to six matches.

Aleksandra Dimitrijevic and Meagan Pearson each won their opening sets 6-1 at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively, when the match was called.

The Pilots will carry the momentum into a matchup against No. 44 Utah on Friday at 1:30 p.m. The match will be played at the Vancouver Tennis Center (Vancouver, Wash.) with live scoring available at PortlandPilots.com.
