PORTLAND, Ore -- Peter Allegro was electric on the mound for the Portland Pilots, punching out 10 Pepperdine hitters over 6.1 innings of work to help power the Pilots past the Waves 5-2. The win gives Portland their first sweep of the season.
In addition to his 10 strikeouts, Allegro (2-2) went 6.1 innings, giving up two runs on three hits and walking two for Portland (13-6, 3-0). Jacob Dobmeier also made an impact on the mound for the Pilots, throwing two shutout innings while allowing one hit, with no walks and two strikeouts, earning his fifth save of the season.
In the batter's box, the Pilots were paced by Spencer Scott, who went 1-for-4 on the day with a grand slam and four RBI's. Zach Toglia compiled a standout effort as well, going 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Junior Christian Cooney also chipped in for Portland, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding a walk.
How it happened
All the runs for the Pilots came in the fifth inning. Portland's offense started clicking and put up five runs, including a grand slam off the bat of Scott. Pepperdine put two runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Pilots still held on for the 5-2 win.

» This is the second time in three years the Pilots have earned a sweep to start WCC play. The last time they did so was against Pacific in 2021.
