CORVALLIS, Ore. -- The Oregon State Beavers scored five runs over their final three offensive innings to overcome the Portland Pilots 8-6 in Corvallis. Curtis Hebert (0-3) took the loss on the mound for Portland (13-7).
At the plate, the Pilots were led by Ben Patacsil, who went 2-for-4 on the day with a home run, a walk and two RBI's. Briley Knight compiled a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 1-for-4 with a home run, a walk and an RBI. Jake Holcroft also chipped in for Portland, putting together two hits in five trips to the plate while adding a double.
How it Happened
The Pilots got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning. Patacsil put Portland on the board with a two-out solo home run off AJ Lattery.
After the Beavers tied the ballgame at one, the Pilots came back to retake the lead in the third inning. The Portland offense exploded for four runs, scoring once off an RBI single from Patacsil, twice off of walks and again off a wild pitch. The pitching mishaps brought the score to 5-1 in favor of the Pilots.
Oregon State narrowed Portland's lead to 5-2 before the Pilots stretched the advantage to 6-2 in the fifth inning. The Pilots scored a run on Knight's leadoff home run off Rhett Larson. But the Pilots were unable to hold the lead, as Oregon State scored six times over the remaining four innings. They scored three runs off Pilot errors, two off RBI hits and another off a sacrifice fly to beat Portland 8-6 at Goss Stadium.
