PROVO, Utah – The Portland women's tennis team struggled to adjust to the altitude and dropped a 7-0 decision to No. 75 BYU Cougars Saturday on the road. The Pilots fall to 8-4, with all four losses coming against ranked opponents, while BYU improves to 10-5 and 4-1 in West Coast Conference play.
The doubles point came down to the wire after BYU took the No. 1 doubles by a 6-3 margin followed by the Pilot duo of Rimona Rouf and Aleksandra Dimitrijevic pulling out a 6-3 win at the No. 2 position. Portland's freshmen tandem of Meagan Pearson and Alaia Rubio Perez fought back from a 5-3 deficit, but ultimately fell 7-5 at No. 3 to give the Cougars the 1-0 lead.
BYU controlled the singles matches and won all six in straight sets to complete the sweep.
Portland will look to get back to its winning ways next weekend with a pair of WCC home matches. The Pilots host Santa Clara on Friday at 10 a.m. and then San Francisco on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Louisiana Pacific Tennis Center. Live video and scoring links are available at PortlandPilots.com.
