STOCKTON, Calif. -- Portland starter Peter Allegro had everything working on Sunday, striking out nine Pacific hitters over six innings of work to help power the Pilots over the Tigers 5-1.
In addition to his nine strikeouts, Allegro (3-2) tossed six innings, giving up just one run on five hits and walking two for Portland (16-7, 6-0). Kaden Segel also made an impact on the mound for the Pilots, throwing three shutout innings while allowing two hits, with no walks and four strikeouts.
Zach Toglia led the way offensively for the Pilots, going 2-for-4 in the ballgame with a home run and an RBI. Ben Patacsil put together a standout performance as well, going 2-for-5 with a triple. Jake Tsukada also helped out, going 2-for-5 for Portland with an RBI.
How it Happened
Trailing 1-0 after allowing an early run, the Pilots first scored in the third inning. Portland scored three runs,with one driven in on a home run by Toglia, a second coming off a wild pitch and a third off an RBI single from Briley Knight. Portland led 3-1 after three.
The Tigers failed to push any runs across before the Pilots offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. Portland scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Tsukada, which brought the Pilots lead to 4-1.
Portland kept Pacific without a run before building their lead to 5-1 in the sixth inning. The Pilots scored once on an RBI single off the bat of senior Nich Klemp. The score remained 5-1 for the rest of the game, as Portland coasted to the win.
