PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland women's tennis team dropped a tough 4-3 decision to the Pacific Tigers on Saturday in West Coast Conference action at the Louisiana Pacific Tennis Center. The Pilots move to 9-8 overall and 1-5 in league play, while the Tigers improve to 7-10 and 2-5 in league.

Portland played its second straight match without key player Sally Pethybridge (ill) who was replaced on the No. 1 doubles line with Rose Watanabe. Watanabe and Iva Zelic teamed up to knock off the No. 37-ranked tandem of Klara Kosan and Karina Chao 6-4. Pilot freshmen Alaia Rubio Perez and Meagan Pearson teamed up for a 6-1 win at No. 3 against Danielle Zamora and Alexis Sam to give the Pilots the early lead.

The Pilots went up 2-0 when Rimona Rouf picked up a win at No. 2 singles after taking the opening set and her opponent retiring due to injury. Pacific picked up a point at No. 1 singles when Zelic was forced to retire midway through the third set with a back issue.

Pearson then defeated Zoe Clydesdale-Eberle in a three-setter at No. 4, but the Tigers were able to pull out the win with a pair of three set victories at the No. 5 and No. 6 positions.

The Pilots will conclude the regular season by hosting the Gonzaga Bulldogs with WCC Championships qualifications on the line. Portland and the Bulldogs meet on Saturday at 10 a.m. The top conference six teams in the ITA Rankings will earn spots at the 2023 WCC Championships.
