The Portland Pilots dropped both contests against the LMU Lions on Saturday, giving the Lions the series. This is the first time the Pilots have been swept this season.

GAME 1 | LMUÂ 8, Portland 4
PORTLAND, Ore. --Â The Portland Pilots got a strong performance out of junior Christian Cooney, who notched two extra base hits in a 8-4 loss to the Loyola Marymount Lions Saturday.
Brock Gillis (2-2) got the ball to start for Portland (17-13, 7-5) and took the loss. Nick Brink was a bright spot for the Pilots, coming out of the bullpen and throwing 4.2 innings, giving up two runs, all earned, on five hits, with no walks and five strikeouts.
Cooney's two extra base hits were the highlight of a 2-for-4 day, and included a double, a home run and an RBI. Ben Patacsil put together a noteworthy performance as well, going 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Riley McCarthy also contributed for the Pilots, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding two RBI's.
How it Happened
The Pilots were trailing 2-0 in the fourth inning -- the two runs coming off a two-run shot from Devin Ornelas --Â when they first put runs on the board. McCarthy drove in two runs for Portland with a single, scoring Evan Scavotto and Cooney.
The Lions then scored six runs in the fifth inning to retake their advantage. Portland responded in the seventh, pushing across a run on Patacsil's two-out RBI double, which brought the score to 8-3 in favor of the Lions.
Portland held the Lions off the scoreboard before narrowing the gap to 8-4 in the eighth. The Pilots notched a run on Cooney's one-out solo home run. The Pilots were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.

» Portland's power output was led by Cooney, who picked up two extra base hits in the ballgame. His home run was his first of the year.
» Portland's highest scoring inning was the fourth, when it pushed two runs across.

GAME 2 | Loyola Marymount 3, Portland 1
PORTLAND, Ore. --Â Peter Allegro was dominant on Saturday, striking out nine LMU hitters over seven innings of work, but it was not enough as the Portland Pilots fell to the Lions 3-1.
In addition to his nine strikeouts, Allegro (3-3) threw seven innings, giving up three runs, all of them earned, on nine hits and walking one for Portland (17-14, 7-5). Kaden Segel also made an impact on the mound for the Pilots, throwing two shutout innings while allowing two hits, with no walks and three strikeouts.
Jake Holcroft led the way offensively for the Pilots, going 1-for-4 in the ballgame with the lone RBI for Portland. Evan Scavotto put together a standout performance at the dish as well, going 2-for-4. Junior Tristan Gomes also helped out, going 1-for-3 for Portland with a double.
How it Happened
The Pilots got on the scoreboard first, starting in the third inning. Portland got an RBI single from Holcroft, scoring Gomes from second base.
The Pilots were unable to hold the lead, as LMUÂ twice in the fifth and once in the sixth to take a 3-1 lead. The lead was just enough, as the Pilots couldn't overcome it.

» Allegro fanned nine Lions hitters. It's the fourth game in a row he's thrown at least seven strikeouts.
» Pilot pitchers combined to strike out 12 Loyola Marymount hitters.
» Portland pitchers limited Loyola Marymount to just 1-for-8 (.125) with runners in scoring position.
» Portland pitchers faced 38 Loyola Marymount hitters in the game, allowing seven ground balls and seven fly balls while striking out 12.
» Holcroft led the Pilots at the plate, going 1-for-4 with an RBI, the only RBI for Portland.
» Scavotto was the only Pilot with multiple hits, batting 2-for-4. It's his seventh game this year with multiple hits.
» LMU was led offensively by Sam Biller, who went 1-for-5 with a home run and two RBI's.
» Owen Hackman led the Lions pitching staff, throwing a complete game with only one run allowed.
