SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – For the second time this season and the sixth time in her career, goalkeeper Bre Norris has been named the WCC Defensive Player of the Week.
Norris earns the honor after recording two shutouts, one against the Seattle U Redhawks and another against the UC Irvine Anteaters. Against UC Irvine, Norris also posted a season high four saves. The shutouts were the third and fourth shutouts of the year for the Pilots, and Portland has still yet to allow more than one goal in a match this season, marking the first time since 2016 they've done so through the first six matches.
The 'keeper from Boise has bee solid between the pipes for Portland to start the season. She currently leads the conference in goals against average (.333), save percentage (.857) and shutouts (4). She is also 16
th and 18
th nationally in shutouts and goals against average. Her 23 shutouts for her career are good for seventh in program history as well.
The Pilots are off to a strong start at 4-1-1, making this the second season in a row they've started with at least four wins through the first six contests. They face a tough road trip featuring Brown University and Stonehill College next, playing the Bears on Thursday, Sept. 14 and the Skyhawks on Sunday, Sept. 17.
