How it Happened
Denver opened the scoring when Sam Bassett scored in the 17th minute, assisted by Oje Ofunrein. The Pilots leveled the match on a goal from Samory Powder -- his third goal of the season -- in the 36th minute, assisted by Kevin Bonilla to make it 1-1 at the half.
Denver went ahead 2-1 on Bassett's 46th-minute goal, assisted by Lukas Fisher and Dylan Akau. The Pilots knotted it up at 2-2 20 minutes later with a 68th-minute goal from Jacob Babalai, his fourth goal of the season. The goal came off a header from Samory Powder set up by Bonilla.
Portland grabbed their first lead on Jose Olmos' first goal of the season and of his carer in the 78th minute, assisted by Sebastian Hernandez and Bonilla. The assists were Hernandez's second of the season and Bonilla's seventh.
The Pilots' lead increased to 4-2 thanks to a 78th-minute goal from Buba Fofanah, his fourth goal of the season. The 4-2 held to the end for Portland's first win over a ranked team.
