SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – For the third time this year and the seventh time of her career, Bre Norris was named the WCC Defensive Player of the Week. She is the only player in the conference to have three Defensive Player of the Week wins this year.
Norris won after earning credit for two shutouts this past week after the Pilots played Brown University to a draw and dominated Stonehill College 4-0 for their largest win of the season. Norris recorded three saves as well in the matchup against Brown. The shutouts also go down for Norris as the 24
th and 25
th shutouts of her career, moving her to sixth in program history.
The keeper from Boise has been solid between the pipes for Portland. She is one of just 11 players in the country to have six shutouts under their belt and also ranks sixth and 14
th nationally in both goals against average (.250) and save percentage (.889) respectively. Both of those numbers lead the conference. She has helped anchor a Pilot defense that has allowed only two goals through eight matches, with their GAA ranking third nationally. They are one of just six teams nationally to have allowed just two goals or fewer this year.
The Pilots are currently 5-1-2, having reached five wins through eight games for just the third time since 2013. This week, they return home to host the Cal Poly Mustangs, facing off against the Big West challenger on Saturday, Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. Check PortlandPilots.com for live stats and video options.
