SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – For the first time this season and of her career, Camille Ashe was named the WCC Defensive Player of the Week.
Ashe was stellar in Portland's 2-0 win over the Cal Poly Mustangs this past weekend. Ashe played the full 90 minutes of Portland's shutout and assisted on the opening goal that proved to be the game-winner. Her assist was the first of the year for her.
The center back has anchored a dominant Portland defense this year. The Pilots have allowed just two goals through nine games, which is the fewest Portland's allowed through nine since the 2008 season. They rank second nationally in both total goals allowed and goals against average (.222), and they also rank third in shutout percentage (.778) and seventh in save percentage (.900).
Portland's dominant win over the Mustangs put them at 6-1-2 for the year, which is the most wins they have posted through nine games since the 2013 season. They open conference play this weekend on Saturday, Sept. 30 against the Pacific Tigers in Stockton. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Check PortlandPilots.com for live stats and video options.
