PORTLAND, Ore. -- The No. 6 Portland Pilots held the Utah Valley Wolverines scoreless and cruised to a 6-0 shutout victory Monday, improving their record to 3-0-0 overall. It is the first time they've started 3-0 since 1997.
How it Happened
Portland broke the 0-0 tie early when Buba Fofanah scored his third goal of the season in the ninth minute, assisted by Jacob Babalai and Kevin Bonilla. The goal proved to be the game-winner.
The Pilots tacked on another score on a goal from Samory Powder -- his second goal of the season -- in the 34th minute. Portland made it a 3-0 advantage soon on Oliver Jeppe's 38th-minute goal, his first of the season and of his Pilot career. Sebastian Nava assisted the goal, doing so off a free kick.
The Pilots made it a 4-0 lead early in the second half with a 55th-minute goal from Babalai, his third goal of the season. Nava assisted the goal once again off the free kick. Portland grabbed a 5-0 lead soon after on Nava's second goal of the season in the 63rd minute, coming off a penalty kick drawn by Nick Fernandez.
Portland expanded their lead to 6-0 thanks to a 80th-minute goal from Timothy Ennin, his first goal of the season and as a Pilot. The score proved to be the last of the game.
