MORAGA, Calif. -- The Saint Mary's Gaels drilled 11 first half three-pointers en route to a 95-52 victory over Portland in West Coast Conference men's basketball action Thursday night at University Credit Union Pavilion.
The Pilots (7-10, 1-1) had three players score in double figures, led by Yuto Yamanouchi-Williams, who had 14 points. Tyler Robertson tacked on 12 points and Vukasin Masic helped out with 10 points and six assists.
Yamanouchi-Williams reached double figures for the second straight game after coming off of redshirt. He drilled 4 of 7 three-pointers and added five rebounds and a blocked shot.
The Gaels (12-6, 3-0) finished the game 16 of 32 from three-point range and were led by Aidan Mahaney with 25 points, including 7 of 11 from beyond the arc.
How It Happened
Saint Mary's made five of their first six three-pointers to jump out to a 15-3 lead early. Robertson scored 10 of Portland's first 14 points to keep the Pilots within reach, but the Gaels continued to pour it on. A 9:29 scoreless streak midway through the first period put the Pilots in a deep hole as Saint Mary's took a 56-23 lead into halftime. The Gaels made 11 of 18 three-pointers in the opening stanza.
Portland found an offensive rhythm to start the second half and pulled within 60-32 after a Tyler Harris layup and Chris Austin free throw, but the Gaels continued to score efficiently and pulled away down the stretch.
