SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Portland men's basketball team shot 50 percent from beyond the arc and Tyler Robertson scored a season-high 34 points, but the Pilots fell to the Santa Clara Broncos 101-86 on the road Saturday.
Robertson led the Pilots (7-12, 1-3) by going 7-of-16 from the field and 16-of-18 at the foul line. He added four assists and three steals. Yuto Yamanouchi-Williams scored a season high 17 points and grabbed a team-best six rebounds, while Juanse Gorosito helped out with 16 points and seven assists.
Portland utilized great ball movement in Saturday's game, piling up 17 assists on 25 made field goals. Gorosito's seven assists paced the Pilots.
How It Happened
Both teams shot well early as the Broncos (14-7, 5-1) raced out to 19-9 lead by making their first seven field goal attempts, including five three-pointers. The Pilots responded with a 13-2 run capped by a Gorosito three-pointer to take a 30-27 lead.
Santa Clara went into halftime with a 45-41 lead after drilling 9-of-23 three-pointers. The Pilots buried 10-of-17 triples in the opening stanza.
Portland tied the game early in the second half on a Yamanouchi-Williams dunk, but the Broncos used a run to take a 65-54 edge with 13:29 remaining.
Chris Austin buried a three-pointer and then made a layup to pull the Pilots within 71-66 with 9:54 left, but Santa Clara responded with a 5-0 run and Portland would get no closer than six the rest of regulation.

» The Pilots made half of their attempts from three point range, knocking down 14 of 28 shots.
» The Pilots shared the ball well, recording an assist on 68 percent of made baskets.
» Tyler Robertson, Yuto Yamanouchi-Williams, and Juanse Gorosito combined to account for 78 percent of the Pilots points.
» Tyler Robertson led the Pilots with a game-high 34 points, which matched the single-game high for all WCC players this season.
» Portland got a team-high six rebounds from Yuto Yamanouchi-Williams.
» Santa Clara made 16 of 39 threes and shot 55.1 percent overall from the field.
» Christoph Tilly led six Broncos in double figures with 22 points.

Portland returns home to host the San Diego Toreros on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Chiles Center. The game was rescheduled after being postponed due to inclement weather conditions last Thursday.
