SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- Kennedy Dickie collected a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds and Lucy Cochrane tied the program career block record to lead the Portland Pilots past the San Francisco Dons 67-60 on the road Saturday. It was the first conference win of the year for the Pilots.
In addition to Dickie's double-double, the Pilots (9-7, 1-1) had Cochrane score 12 points, grab eight rebounds and block four shots, giving her 227 blocks for her career. Maisie Burnham tacked on 14 points and seven rebounds, with her rebound total being a season high.
Portland out-rebounded San Francisco 49-40 in Saturday's game, led by Dickie's 13 boards. Their 49 rebounds are the most they've grabbed in a game this season. The Portland defense also held San Francisco shooters to only 33.3% from the field.
How It Happened
After jumping out to an 8-7 advantage, Portland went on a 9-0 run with 4:03 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Burnham, to increase its lead to 17-7. The Pilots then lost some of that lead, but still entered the quarter break with a 17-9 advantage.
The Pilots maintained their lead in the game's second frame despite a push from San Francisco and entered halftime with a 30-27 edge. Portland dominated in the paint, scoring 12 of its 13 points close to the basket.
Following intermission, Portland continued to expand its advantage, pushing it to 35-30 before going on a 6-0 run, punctuated by a three from Burnham, to expand its lead further to 41-30 with 5:53 to go in the third. The Pilots held onto that lead for the rest of the frame and entered the fourth quarter with a 51-40 edge. Portland knocked down four three-pointers in the quarter to score 12 of its 21 total points.
Portland kept its lead intact before going on a 5-0 run to grow the lead to 64-55 with 30 seconds to go in the contest. The Dons narrowed the margin to within five late in the fourth, but Portland staved off the Dons to get the 67-60 win. Portland got up and down the court quickly in the quarter, scoring five fast break points.

» Kennedy Dickie notched a double-double for the Pilots with 17 points and 13 rebounds. It's the most rebounds any Pilot has grabbed in a game this year.
» Dickie, Burnham and Lucy Cochrane were the three Pilots to score in double-digits with 17, 14 and 12 respectively.

» Portland tallied 15 total assists in the game.
» Portland had a 49-40 edge on the boards in the win, with their rebound total being the most they've grabbed in a game this year.
» The Pilots were active in affecting shots on the defensive end, recording six blocks as a team. Four of those came from Lucy Cochrane, who tied the program record for blocks in a career at the Division I level with 227.
» This is the first win in WCC play for Portland.
