PORTLAND, Ore. -- The Portland Pilots battled to a 3-2 win over the Oregon State Beavers to finish the regular season on a 10-game unbeaten streak. They have gone undefeated in conference play for the first time since 1989.
Portland finished the regular season 7-4-7 overall and 4-0-4 in WCC play with the win. Connor Evans, Joe Highfield and Efetobo Aror all scored tonight for Portland. It was the third goal for Evans, the seventh for Highfield and the first for Aror.
How it Happened
Oregon State broke the 0-0 tie when Sergi Solans scored in the sixth minute, assisted by Enzo Newman and Pere Belmonte. The Pilots leveled the game soon after on a goal from Connor Evans -- his third goal of the season. Evans scored on a penalty kick.
The Beavers then took back the lead at 2-1 on Pol Morlans' 14th-minute goal, assisted by Solans and Alejandro Silva. But that would not hold for long, with the Pilots scoring to tie it at 2-2 with a 20th-minute goal from Joe Highfield, his seventh goal of the season. Evans and Jose Olmos assisted the goal, with Evans playing it into the box for Highfield. Highfield's header evened the match.
Portland took a 3-2 lead on Efetobo Aror's first goal of the season in the 53rd minute, assisted by Nick Fernandez. Fernandez found Aror in the box, who turned and launched it right past the Beavers to make it 3-2 Pilots. The score would hold to the end, giving Portland the win.
