SAN BRUNO, Calif. – For the second week in a row, Maisie Burnham earned WCC Player of the Week honors, sharing the award with Yvonne Ejim of Gonzaga. It's the third time the Pilots have been honored as well.
Burnham put together an all-around performance last Friday, posting 16 points with a career-high eight assists, five rebounds, four steals and two blocks in a win against the Portland State Vikings. She was one of 31 players to have posted a stat line hitting all four of those marks this season, and she's the only WCC player to have done that. Her points, assists and steals total all led Portland.
The Spangle, Washington product has been one of the best players in the conference to start the year. She's averaging 17.3 points per game on 54.3% shooting along with 5.3 rebounds and 1.4 steals. Her scoring average and total points (190) both rank second in the WCC and she leads the conference in free throws made (50).
Portland's win over the Vikings put them at 11-0 to start the season, making them one of nine teams to still be undefeated. The Pilots are one of just three teams sitting at 11-0 or better and are the only undefeated team to start the year with all double-digit victories. It's the best start in program history.
The Pilots open WCC play against the LMU Lions on Thursday, Dec. 19 down in Los Angeles. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. Check PortlandPilots.com for live stats and video options.
