SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Emme Shearer was named the WCC Women's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday after a stellar Thanksgiving Weekend performance.
Shearer garnered MVP honors at the Nugget Classic down in Reno, Nev. with a dominant three-game stretch that saw her average 21.7 points per game on 62.9% shooting. She put up a career-high 26 points against the host team, the Nevada Wolf Pack, on Sunday, helping the Pilots maintain their undefeated record through eight games. Shearer also averaged 2.7 steals over the weekend and reached 235 steals for her career, becoming just the sixth Pilot in program history to reach that total.
Shearer has been one of the top players for the Pilots this season. She currently leads Portland in both points per game (17.0) and total steals (17). She currently ranks in the top five conference-wise in total points (third, 136), total steals (third, 17), free throw percentage (third, 90.2%), field goal percentage (fourth, 54.2%), points per game (fourth, 17.0) and steals per game (fifth, 2.13). She was an All-WCC First Team selection last season and an All-WCC Preseason Team selection this year.
The Pilots are one of the hottest teams in the nation, currently one of just 12 teams in the nation to start the season 8-0 or better. Their 8-0 start is the best in program history, and they are one of just six undefeated teams to have won every game by double digits. Only Portland and Alabama have gotten at least eight wins by double-digits this season. They are the only team in the WCC without a loss.
Statistically, they lead the conference in nine different categories, including free throws made per game (17.88), free throw percentage (78.15%), field goal percentage (48.2%), turnover margin (27), steals per game (12.6), turnovers forced per game (22.50), points per game (81.8) and scoring margin (21.5).
