SALEM, Ore. -- Portland Pilots Beach Volleyball opened the regular season on Friday with a match against the Corban Warriors, falling 5-0.
The Portland 1s battled against the Warriors, with Annika Stammberger and Sophie Lee pushing Corban to three sets. Unfortunately, Corban took the final set 15-12. The Portland 3s and 4s came close to pushing a third set as well, but ultimately came up short in their matches. The end result was a 5-0 sweep for Corban, who is ranked fourth in NAIA heading into this season and has made the NAIA national championship two years in a row.
"After our first match this afternoon, I couldn't be more excited about our potential for this season," Portland Head Coach Dylan Hamilton said. "With only a few days of practice under our belts for our indoor crossover athletes, we competed extremely hard and are looking forward to getting after it again tomorrow morning."
The Pilots take on the Sacramento State Hornets and the Bushnell Beacons in their next matchups. They play both teams tomorrow, competiting against the Hornets at 10 a.m. and the Beacons at 12 p.m. Check PortlandPilots.com for more information.
