PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland men's tennis team cruised to a 6-1 victory over the Seattle U Redhawks Saturday in the team's 2024 home opener at the Louisiana Pacific Tennis Center.

The Pilots cruised to the doubles point with convincing wins at the top two positions. At No. 2 doubles, Oscar Brown and Stefan Skobelev raced to a 6-1 win against Michael Frank and Julian Worn. The No. 1 tandem of Luka Vukovic and Nikolas Tvedt then clinched with a 6-2 victory over Jun Sasagawa and Veselin Kiselkov.

Singles fared much the same way as the Pilots earned straight set wins at five of the six matches.

Nicolas Ocana beat Worn 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2 and then Brown was a 6-3, 6-3 winner against Sasagawa at No. 1. Vukovic provided the match-clinching point with a 6-2, 6-4 win against Filip Stipic at No. 3.

Maxim Groysman added to the tally with a 6-1, 6-1 thumping of Kiselkov at No. 4 and Nikola Keremedchiev won his Portland dual debut 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5 against Yu Han Hseih.

Seattle U picked up its lone point with a win by Frank at No. 6 singles.

"I thought we did a good job of improving upon our first match against Purdue," Portland head coach Aaron Gross said. "Purdue was a good team and they pointed out some spots that where we really needed improvement. We put in the work, got better and it showed today. We starter out much sharper in doubles. It was great to see Luka and Nikola get their first wins in dual matches as Pilots, but everyone was sharp and contributed today."
