EUGENE, Ore. -- Portland Pilots Beach Volleyball notched their fifth win of the season on Sunday, taking down the Bushnell Beacons 5-4 down in Eugene. It's the second time they've beaten Bushnell this year, and their win total already matches their total from last season.
The match was a tight one that went down to the wire, with the Pilots pulling out the win in the final match. The Portland 1s duo of Elin Larsson and Leonie Freytag defeated Bushnell's 1s 21-15 and 21-18 respectively to officially secure victory. It's the fifth win the two have recorded this year, the most of any Pilot duo.
Kili Robins and Elena Bullemer notched their fourth win as a duo, sweeping their match as the Portland 4s. Annika Stammberger and Taylor Helle pushed Bushnell to three sets, but the Portland 2s came up just short, falling in the final set. Maui Robins and Jordan Bardouche also went to three sets against their opponents as the Portland 5s, but came out on top.
The Portland 3s in Valerie Bruk and Sophie Lee battled, but couldn't hold on in their match, leaving it up to Larsson and Freytag. Fortunately for the Pilots, the Portland 1s came through to give them the victory.
The Pilots play Bushnell again on Sunday, March 17 in the first ever match at the Tom and Meg Names Family Foundation Beach Volleyball Courts, the new home for Portland Pilots Beach Volleyball down by the Willamette River. The match will begin at noon. Check PortlandPilots.com for more information.
