EUGENE, Ore. – The Portland women's tennis dropped a 6-1 decision to the Oregon Ducks Saturday afternoon at the Student Tennis Center. The Pilots fall to 7-6 overall, while the Ducks improve to 9-5.

Oregon secured the doubles point courtesy of a tiebreak win at the No. 3 position. Portland's nationally ranked No. 1 tandem of Iva Zelic and Sally Pethybridge earned a 6-4 victory to improve to 7-1 this spring, but the Ducks won 6-2 at No. 2 and then clinched at No. 3.

Oregon carried the momentum into singles play and picked up straight sets wins the No. 3-6 positions. Pethybridge continued her strong play with a 6-4, 6-4 victory against Nina Geissler at No. 2 singles. Pethybridge improved to 11-2 in dual singles with the win.

Oregon capped the scoring when Sophie Luescher outlasted Iva Zelic 6-4, 2-6, 10-8 at the top of the order.

Portland will now transition to West Coast Conference play and open the league schedule with four consecutive road matches. The Pilots next visit Gonzaga on Saturday, March 23 at 11 a.m.
