It was a dominant Saturday for the Portland Pilots, who took both games in their doubleheader against the Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers to sweep the series. It's the third sweep of the year for the Pilots and extends their winning streak to seven, their longest such streak since the shortened 2020 season.

GAME 1 | Portland 6, Mount St. Mary's 4
PORTLAND, Ore. -- Jake Holcroft totaled three hits to help lead the Portland Pilots past the Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers 6-4 Saturday.
Carter Gaston (4-1) started on the mound and picked up the win for Portland (16-8). The right-hander went six innings, giving up four runs, three earned, on seven hits, allowing two walks and striking out three. Jack Folkins also made an impact on the mound for the Pilots, throwing one shutout inning while allowing no hits.
In addition to his three hits, Holcroft had a triple and a walk to lead the Pilots. Jack Thomson put together a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 1-for-3 with his first home run of the year and three RBI's.  Zach Toglia also helped Portland, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding a home run and an RBI.
How it Happened
The Pilots were trailing 1-0 in the first inning when they first put runs on the board. Holcroft came across to score the lone run of the inning off a Thomson sac fly to get Portland on the board.
The Mountaineers broke the tie in the third and re-took the lead heading into the fourth inning, when the Pilots got back on the scoreboard. Portland picked up a run on Toglia's leadoff home run, his fourth of the year, making it 3-2 in favor of the Mount.
Portland held the Mountaineers off the board before rallying to grab a 4-3 lead in the fifth. The Pilots added two to their tally on Thomson's two-run homer to right.
The Mountaineers quickly tied the ballgame at four before Portland came back to reclaim their advantage in the sixth inning. The Pilots scored two runs in the frame, punctuated with an RBI triple off the bat of sophomore Jonas Salk, bringing the score to 6-4 in favor of Portland. The score remained 6-4 for the rest of the game, as the Pilots held on for the win.

GAME 2 | Portland 23, Mount St. Mary's 3
PORTLAND, Ore. -- In what was one of the most dominant offensive displays in recent program history, the Pilots put up their highest run total since 1987 in a 23-3 win over the Mount. The win clinched the series for the Pilots.
Sam Stuhr (2-1) got the win for Portland (17-8). The right-hander went six innings, giving up three runs, all of them earned, on seven hits, allowing two walks and striking out nine. Morgan Codron also pitched well, going three shutout innings while allowing one hit, walking two and striking out six.
Five different Pilots recorded multiple hits in the game, including four who recorded four hits: Brady Bean, Tristan Gomes, Jace Miller and Tyler Howard. In addition to his four hits, Bean had two doubles, a walk and five RBI's to lead the Pilots. Miller had a career-best four hits and five RBI's in six trips to the plate. Howard came up just a home run shy of the cycle, hitting two singles, a double and a triple along with four RBI's. Gomes put together four hits in five trips to the plate while adding a home run, a walk and two RBI's. His homer was his second of the year.
How it Happened
The Pilots scored in six different innings on the way to the win. Portland broke a 0-0 tie and took the lead for good in the second inning, scoring five. Gomes, Howard and Bean all had RBI hits in the inning, including Gomes's homer, to make it 5-0 early.
Portland piled it on the very next inning after the Mount scored three in the third inning. Miller, Howard and Bean all had RBI hits, then Bean got home on an error to make it 11-3 Portland through just three innings.
Bean added another RBI hit in the fifth before the Pilots piled on five runs in the sixth. Miller and Gage Bruce each had two-run hits and Jack Thomson brought home Bruce on a sac fly to make it 17-23 Pilots.
The Pilots added another four runs in the seventh, with Miller, Bruce and Bean all putting together RBI hits to make it 21-3 Pilots. Howards two-run single in the eighth made it 23-3 Portland, which remained the final.
