PORTLAND, Ore. – The No. 7 Pepperdine women's tennis team defeated the Portland Pilots 7-0 on Saturday in a West Coast Conference match at Louisiana-Pacific Tennis Center. The Waves (12-6, 3-0) remain unbeaten in WCC play, while the Pilots (10-9, 3-3) fall to 5-1 on their home court.
The Pilots put up a fight early with Aleksandra Dimitrijevic and Rose Watanabe earning a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles. The Waves were able to clinch the doubles point with a 6-4 win at the No. 1 position courtesy of the No. 2-ranked duo in the nation of Savannah Broadus and Janice Tjen.
Portland battled in singles against a lineup that featured four players ranked in the top 75 of this week's ITA Rankings. Iva Zelic forced No. 52 Tjen to a second set tiebreak before falling 6-3, 7-6. Pethybridge tested No. 14 Lisa Zaar at No. 2 in a 6-4, 6-3 loss. The Waves also earned straight set wins at No. 3, No. 4 and No. 6.
Rimona Rouf forced Jasmine Conway to a third set super tie-breaker at No. 5, but came up short in a 6-1, 3-6, 10-6 decision.
Portland continues a difficult homestand when the No. 22 San Diego Toreros visit on Sunday at 10 a.m.
