PORTLAND, Ore. -- It was a stellar senior day for the Portland Pilots, who took down the Saint Mary's Gaels 7-5 and earned their fifth conference sweep of the year.
In addition to his eight strikeouts, Stuhr tossed four innings, giving up four runs, all of them earned, on four hits and walking one for Portland (35-17, 19-5). Tanner Douglas also made an impact on the mound for the Pilots, throwing one shutout inning while allowing no hits, with one walk and three strikeouts for his 10th save.
At the plate, the Pilots saw Ben Patacsil and Evan Scavotto collect three hits each, with Patacsil adding a homer and three RBI's and Scavotto collecting two doubles and an RBI. Brady Bean added a home run as well in a 1-for-2 effort.
With 37 wins on the year, the Pilots have officially posted their highest win total in a single season since 1980. With their 19th WCC win, they have also posted their highest win total ever in WCC play and also their second highest conference win total since 1980.
How it Happened
The Pilots were trailing 3-0 in the first inning when they first put runs on the board. Portland scored twice in the inning, including one on a solo shot from Bean and another off an RBI single from Scavotto.
The Pilots kept the Gaels off the board before taking the lead in the second. The Portland offense exploded for four runs, highlighted by a three-run home run off the bat of Patacsil, which brought the Pilots lead to 6-3.
Saint Mary's narrowed Portland's lead to 6-4 before the Pilots stretched the advantage to 7-4 in the fifth inning. The Pilots scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Justin Ramirez. Saint Mary's put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Portland still held on for the 7-5 win.

» Portland got three-hit games from both Patacsil and Scavotto. Patacsil added a home run and three RBI's as well.
» Stuhr struck out eight Gaels hitters in the start to reach over 90 strikeouts on the year.
» The Portland pitching staff combined to strike out 16 Saint Mary's hitters.
» Portland's highest scoring inning was the second, when it pushed four runs across.
» The Pilots out-hit the Gaels at a 9-7 clip.
» Portland pitchers faced 38 Saint Mary's hitters in the game, allowing three ground balls and eight fly balls while striking out 16.
» With 35 wins, the Pilots have posted their highest win total in a season since 1980.
» Portland's 19 conference wins are also the most they've had in a single season and their .792 win percentage is also their best in WCC history.
» The Pilots' five WCC sweeps are the most they've posted in a single season in the conference.
