MCMINNVILLE, Ore. -- Following the Pilots women's victory at the Linfield Harrier Classic, the Portland Pilots men's cross country team matched their success by also securing first place with 20 points overall.
Leading the Pilots was Redshirt Freshman Pedro Vazquez, who dominated the Men's 6,000-meter race, finishing first overall with a time of 18:06.7. Freshman Anthony Giesch followed closely, taking second place with a time of 18:08.1, while Isaac McGill secured the top-3 sweep for the Pilots by finishing third at 18:08.9. Jacob Hupke and Nathan Stein contributed to the team's success, finishing sixth with a time of 18:24.13 and eighth at 18:33.9, respectively. The Pilot men clinched the overall team title with five runners in the top 10, totaling 20 points — 55 points ahead of Corban's second-place finish of 75 points. Impressively, all Pilots finished within the Top 15.
"Great start for the Pilots!" Said head coach Rob Conner. "Smart racing by the top guys running under control then hammering the last lap! Really impressive runs by Pedro, Isaac and Anthony to go 1-2-3!"
The Pilots will be racing again at the Green River Gator Invitational on Sept. 14 at Fort Steilacoom Park, starting at 11 a.m. For more coverage and info, visit PortlandPilots.com.
