NEW ORLEANS, La. - Women's track star Laura Pellicoro delivered a record-breaking performance at the UW Preview this past weekend, clocking an all-conditions collegiate best of 2:37.04 in the 1,000 meters and earning USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week honors for her performance. This achievement marks the first time in program history that a Pilot has been named the National Athlete of the Week during the indoor season.
Pellicoro's stunning run broke her own school record (2:42.51) by over five seconds, establishing the fastest 1,000-meter time ever recorded by a collegiate women's runner. Although the record won't count as an official NCAA record due to Dempsey Indoor's oversized track designation, it stands as a remarkable personal best and a new Italian national record.
The Pilots will return to the Chiles Center to host Portland Indoor 1 on Jan. 26. For more coverage and info, visit PortlandPilots.com.
