PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland men's basketball team got a 19-point performance from the bench, but fell 81-58 to the Saint Mary's Gaels in West Coast Conference action Saturday night at Chiles Center.
The Pilots (5-12, 0-4 WCC) had two players score in double figures, led by Max Mackinnon, who had 12 points. Austin Rapp tacked on 10 points, eight rebounds and five assists and Vincent Delano added six points and two steals.
Portland committed 19 turnovers in the game which led to a 21-2 edge for the Gaels (13-3, 3-0) in points off of turnovers.
How It Happened
An early three-pointer from Max MacKinnon gave the Pilots a 7-2 lead, but Portland went cold from the field and scored just six points over the next 11 minutes of game action. The Pilot defense kept the game within reach Mackinnon tied the game at 15-15 with a pair of free throws and 6:23 left in the period. The Gaels would close the half on a 13-4 run to take a 28-19 lead into the break.
A Rapp three-point play pulled the Pilots within eight early in the second period, but Saint Mary's kept widening its lead and pushed the margin to as much as 30 points late in regulation.

» The Pilots shared the ball well, recording 14 assists on 20 made baskets.
» The Portland bench came alive by adding 19 points to its scoring output.
» Portland cleaned up on the offensive glass, collecting 12 offensive boards in the game.
» Max Mackinnon led the Pilots with 12 points.
» Portland got a team-high eight rebounds from Austin Rapp.
» Augustas Marciulionis led three Gaels in double figures with a game-high 20 points.
