PORTLAND, Ore. – The No. 4 Pilots extended their unbeaten streak to 23 games with a 4-1 drubbing of the Pacific Tigers. The win puts Portland at 10-0-3 overall and 3-0-2 in WCC play.
Three Pilots scored on the day, with Joe Highfield's brace leading the way. It's the second brace of the season for the forward. David Ajagbe added his eighth goal of the year and while Ethan Zamora scored his first. With the win, Portland Head Coach Nick Carlin-Voigt earned his 100
th victory of his career, becoming just the second Pilot coach ever to reach the mark.
How it Happened
Highfield opened the scoring in the 12
th minute. Highfield played it up to Diego Rosas who bounced it back to Highfield. The forward put the ball away to make it 1-0 Pilots.
The Pilots got back to work soon after, with Highfield once again getting involved by working his way down the field before finding David Ajagbe in the final third. Ajagbe finished it off to make it 2-0 Pilots in the 17
th minute.
Highfield found his eighth goal of the year and second of the day in the 26
th minute to give Portland a 3-0 lead, taking a through ball from Sebastian Hernandez and smashing it into the goal.
Pacific added a goal to prevent the shutout, but Portland responded in the 73
rd minute. Ethan Zamora came careening down the field, taking the pass from Ajagbe and knocking it into the net to put the score at a 4-1 final.
Game Notes
- Highfield's brace was his second of the season. Highfield is the only Pilot to have multiple braces this year.
- Highfield and Ajagbe each have eight goals on the year, tied for the team lead.
- Ajagbe's eight goals are the most by any Pilot in their first season with the team since Benji Michel in 2016.
- Highfield has the most goals through his first two seasons of play since Michel as well (2016-17).
- Highfield and Ajagbe each had assists, the fourth for Highfield and third for Ajagbe.
- Diego Rosas posted his ninth assist of the year as well. Micaah Garnette had his fifth of the year while Sebastian Hernandez Hernandez had his second.
- With nine assists, Rosas has the most assists by any Pilot in a season since Kevin Bonilla in 2023.
- This is Portland's fifth straight unbeaten result against Pacific.
- Portland is unbeaten through 13 games for the first time since 2018.
- The Pilots are undefeated through 23 games dating back to last year, which is a program record and the second longest in the nation.
- Nick Carlin-Voigt recorded his 100th win as head coach of the Pilots.
