SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The No. 5 Portland Pilots took their first loss of the season on Saturday, falling to the Santa Clara Broncos on the road 1-0. The Pilots fall to 10-1-3 on the year and 3-1-2 in WCC play.
The loss snaps a 23-game unbeaten streak that stretched back to last season. The streak was the longest in program history and the second longest in the nation.
How it Happened.
The Pilots and Broncos got off a combined 40 shots in the match, with the teams neck and neck most of the way. The Broncos scored in the 75th minute after Miguel-Angel Hernandez blocked two shots back-to-back. Niv Berkovitz scored on the third attempt to put the Broncos ahead. The 1-0 score held the rest of the way.
