LAST TIME OUT: Stanford 94, Pilots 72 (Dec. 1, 2025 — Stanford, Calif.)
• Turnovers and Stanford's efficient offense was the difference as the Cardinal turned 18 Pilot turnovers into a 33-9 edge in points from takeaways. Stanford also shot 52 percent overall including 14-of-33 three-pointers.
• Cameron Williams finished with a game-high 22 points on 9-of-12 shooting, Mikah Ballew added 14 points and James O'Donnell finished with nine points and a team-best nine rebounds.
• Portland raced out to a 5-0 lead behind a Williams three and a Joel Foxwell floater, but Stanford responded with an 11-0 run to seize control. The Cardinal drilled 11 first-half threes and used a 22-0 edge in points off first half turnovers to take a 51-31 halftime lead.
• The Pilots battled back in the second half, shooting 48 percent from the floor and converting 12-of-14 free throws. Portland pulled within 83-68 on a Timo George three-point play with 2:43 remaining before the Cardinal closed the game with an 11-4 run.
• Portland finished the night shooting an efficient 51 percent overall and 79 percent from the line, but Stanford's perimeter shooting and second-chance points proved decisive.
FRESHMAN PHENOMS
• Freshman PG Joel Foxwell has taken two of the first four WCC Freshman of the Week awards and leads the WCC in assists per game (5.8) and is second among league freshmen in scoring (14.1). He is the NCAA freshman leader in assists per game and ranks No. 31 among first year players in scoring.
• He recorded his first career double-double of 12 points and 10 assists to go along with six rebounds in Portland's 83-74 win against Arkansas Pine Bluff on Nov. 6.
• Freshman F Timo George briefly led the nation in field goal percentage last week, but dropped below the makes threshold to qualify. His 73.3 percent from the floor would rank No. 4 nationally, but he is one made field goal shy of qualifying. George is second on the team in both scoring (12.9) and rebounding (5.2). George's 14 dunks are second most in the WCC and No. 31 nationally. He has reached double figures in 7 of 9 games despite playing just 20.7 minutes per game.
• Guard Dante Censori-Hercules has been a defensive stopper off the bench and appeared in eight of nine games.
BALLEW IS BALLIN
• Sophomore G Mikah Ballew moved into the starting lineup for the last two games is averaging 11.9 points through the first nine games.
• He scored a career high 20 points in the opener vs. Willamette, added 15 points against Arkansas Pine Bluff and made clutch plays late in a narrow 67-63 win against UC Davis.
• Ballew has made 31 of 36 free throws – both team highs – and his 16 three-pointers made are second best on the roster.
• He was a key contributor last season off the bench for Portland and the most experienced Pilot returner in terms of minutes played and scoring.
HRONSKY FINDING A RHYTHM
• Duquesne senior transfer Matus Hronsky has reached double figures in three of the last four games and averaging 11.5 points over those four contests.
• He had 12 points against Northern Colorado and followed with 10 versus St. Thomas and then matched a career high with 16 against Long Beach State.
• Hronsky is 16 for 30 from the field and 9 of 10 at the foul line in those games.

WE'RE RIVERBOAT PILOTS, NOT AIRPLANE PILOTS!
• Though a 1935 student contest resulted in the nickname "Chinooks" (after the Native American tribe that inhabited the area, and the largest of the salmon species in the Willamette River), the "Pilots" was chosen by presidential fiat. From that day forward, The Bluff had a new mascot, and he was Wally Pilot.
• When the University changed its name from Columbia University (its earliest sports teams were known as the Cliff dwellers or the Columbias), to the University of Portland in 1935, the name and University had already begun to adapt a more "nautical motif," suitable for a campus site overlooking the Willamette River. At the same time, the Pilot athletic teams became associated with Wally (a stylized riverboat pilot), and the pilot's wheel became the logical logo.
