SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Five Pilot runners earned WCC All-Academic honorable mention, the conference announced Thursday. To qualify, athletes must have participated in at least half their team's games, maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher, and reached at least sophomore standing. Portland's selections include Janelle Avilez, Camryn Bishoff, Julia Ferreira, Madison Griffith and Kate Kabenina.
Redshirt sophomore Janelle Avilez, majoring in Marketing and Analytics, set PRs in both the 5K (19:21.8 at the Charles Bowles Willamette Invitational) and the 6K (20:44.1 at the NCAA West Regional). Sophomore Camryn Bishoff, a Cell, Molecular & Biomedical Science major, raced in four meets for the Pilots this season. Sophomore Julia Ferreira, majoring in Human Biology, competed in four races and set a 6K PR of 23:11.0 at the Linfield George Oja Invitational. Junior Madison Griffith, an Education major, ran in five races and recorded a 6K PR of 22:19.8 at the Linfield George Oja Invitational. Sophomore Kate Kabenina, a Business major, raced in four meets and set two PRs — an 18:51.0 in the 5K at the Charles Bowles Invitational and a 22:38.7 in the 6K at Linfield.
