SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Portland forward Austin Rapp was named the Heluva Good Dip WCC Freshman of the Week for the third time in the last four weeks and a league-best fifth time overall this season, the conference office announced on Monday. Rapp filled the stat sheet and led the Pilots to home wins over Oregon State and LMU last week.
The Melbourne, Australia native averaged 19.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.5 steals and 2.5 blocks per game while shooting 54 percent from the field in the two victories. He went for a season high 24 points on 9-of-15 shooting along with four rebounds, two steals and two blocks in the team's 84-72 win over Oregon State Thursday. He then did a bit of everything by going for 14 points, eight rebounds, six assists and three blocked shots in the 89-78 win against LMU Saturday. Rapp averaged 36 minutes per game and played stellar defense as the Pilots have now won three of four games.
Rapp leads the WCC in three-point percentage (.366) and three-pointers made (70), is third in blocked shots (1.4) and fourth in free throw percentage (.854). He is the top scorer (13.8) and rebounder (6.3) among freshmen in the conference and is top 20 nationally for freshmen in free throw percentage, three-point percentage, threes made, scoring, rebounding and blocked shots.
Portland hits the road for a pair of games next week. The Pilots visit WCC-leading Saint Mary's on Wednesday at 7 p.m. and then face the Pacific Tigers Saturday at 4 p.m. Live coverage links for both games are available at
