GAME 1 | Creighton 5, Portland 2
PORTLAND, Ore. -- The Portland Pilots came up just short in the first game of their home-opening doubleheader on Friday, falling to the Creighton Bluejays 5-2.
Carter Gaston (0-2) started and took the loss on the mound for Portland (1-4). The right-hander went six innings, giving up four runs, three earned, on five hits, allowing three walks and striking out seven. Nolan Umlandt was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going three innings, surrendering one run on one hit, walking two and striking out one.
Offensively, the Pilots were led byf Brady Bean, who went 1-for-3 on the day with two walks and an RBI. Senior Spencer Scott put together a standout day at the plate as well, going 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
How it Happened
The Pilots got on the scoreboard first, starting in the second inning with a bases-loaded walk. The Bluejays then rallied to score four runs and take a 4-1 lead over the next four innings.
Portland pushed across a run on Scott's two-out RBI double, which brought the score to 4-2 in favor of the Bluejays. The Pilots were unable to get any closer, as Creighton added one run to their tally on the way to a 5-2 final.

GAME 2 | Portland 10, Creighton 9
PORTLAND, Ore. -- Trey Swygart and Curtis. Hebert each racked up five strikeouts to help propel the Portland Pilots over the Creighton Bluejays 10-9 on Friday in Game 2 of their doubleheader.
In addition to his five strikeouts, Swygart threw four innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on three hits and walking one for Portland (2-4). Hebert's five strikeouts came in addition to his 3.1 innings of four-run ball where he allowed two hits while walking four. Ryan Rembisz officially earned the win after throwing 1.2 innings.
In the batter's box, the Pilots were paced by Jonas Salk, who went 2-for-4 on the day with a double, a home run, a walk and an RBI. Cole Katayama-Stall put together a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 1-for-3 with a home run, two walks and two RBI's. JT Landwehr also helped out for Portland, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding three RBI's.
How it Happened
The Pilots were trailing 1-0 in the second inning when they first put runs on the board. Portland's offense produced a three-run output that included back-to-back homers from Katayama-Stall and Salk, giving them a 3-1 lead.
The Pilots lost the lead they built in the second, but got back on the board in the fourth trailing 5-3. The Portland offense exploded for five runs, highlighted by big hits from Landwehr and Tyler Howard that helped get them an 8-5 lead.
Creighton narrowed Portland's lead to 8-7 before the Pilots stretched the advantage to 10-7 in the fifth inning. The Pilots added two runs when a single from Landwehr. Creighton put two runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Portland still held on for the 10-9 win.
Game Notes
» Swygart and Hebert struck out five batters each for 10 K's.
» The Pilots' power output was led by Salk, who picked up two extra base hits in the ballgame.
