PORTLAND, Ore. -- Kaden Segel was dominant on Saturday, punching out 10 Creighton hitters over 6.2 innings of work, but it was not enough as the Portland Pilots fell to the Bluejays 6-3.
In addition to his career-high 10 strikeouts, Segel (0-1) went 6.2 innings, giving up three runs, zero earned, on four hits and walking none for Portland (2-5).
At the plate, the Pilots were paced by Brady Bean, who went 2-for-3 on the day with a home run and an RBI. Curtis Hebert put together a noteworthy performance as well, going 2-for-4.
How it Happened
Trailing 3-0, the Pilots first put runs on the board in the fifth inning. Portland picked up a pair of runs in the frame off a litany of errors from Creighton, with the Pilots taking advantage of two errant throws that gave them two runs.
The Pilots kept the deficit at 3-2 before tying the score in the eighth. Portland picked up a run on Bean's two-out solo home run off Creighton, which evened the score at 3-3.
Creighton scored three runs in the final inning to retake the lead. They took advantage of an error by Portland to score one and followed that with a two-run bomb from Will MacLean. The Pilots fell short in the bottom of the ninth, falling 6-3.
