PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland women's tennis team defeated the Eastern Washington Eagles by a 6-1 margin Saturday at the Louisiana-Pacific Tennis Center. The Pilots have now won three straight matches and improve to 3-3 overall, while the Eagles fall to 2-6.

Nadine Arbaizar Martinez and freshman Lexie Flores then clinched with a 6-1 win versus Zoe Pradel and Sara Vasic at No. 3.
To first wave of singles was a battle as Pethybridge was pulled out of the No. 1 slot due to injury. Pacific tied the score with a win at No. 2 singles by Anait Arutiunian. The Pilots responded with comeback victories at No. 1 and No. 3.
Rubio Perez overcame Foshee 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 at the top of the order and then freshman Isabella Marquart pulled out a 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 win against Landra Nizetic at No. 3.
Arbaizar Martinez provided the match-clinching point with a 6-1, 6-2 defeat of Kelly Arends at the No. 4 position.
Portland concluded the scoring with freshmen Maria Galatescu and Flores earning straight set victories at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively.
"This was a very tough match as Eastern Washington is a very well coached team that fights start to finish," Portland head coach Filip Zivkovic said. "I have to give credit to my staff for turning the matches around at No. 1 and No. 3 by motivating our players and pushing the right buttons at the right moments. So much credit goes to players as well, they have shown a lot of grit over the last two days of tennis. Our freshman class is continuing to develop well and they have showcased their improvement with solid wins today. Overall, I am extremely proud of our team and their efforts to consistently improve, persevere and compete at the highest levels. We showed a lot of grit and bravery today and played some very inspirational tennis. "
The Pilots return home next weekend to host Weber State on Saturday and Idaho State on Sunday with both matches set to start at 10 a.m. Live coverage links are available at PortlandPilots.com.
