SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Portland forward Austin Rapp was named the WCC Freshman of the Week for the second consecutive week and fourth time overall this season, the league office announced on Monday. Rapp averaged 13.0 points and 4.5 rebounds per game as the Pilots split a road trip at LMU and Pepperdine.
The Melbourne, Australia native broke the University of Portland single season freshman record for three-pointers made in Portland's 84-64 win at Pepperdine on Saturday. His four triples pushed him to 63 on the season, passing the previous record of 61. He finished with 12 points and a team-high seven rebounds against the Waves.
On Thursday at LMU, Rapp missed the opening 10 minutes dealing with a migraine, but still managed to score 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the field in just 16 minutes of game action.
Rapp leads the WCC in three-point percentage (.377) and three-pointers made and is third in free throw percentage (.893). He is the top scorer (13.9) and rebounder (6.2) among freshmen in the conference and is top 20 nationally for freshmen in free throw percentage, three-point percentage, threes made, scoring, rebounding and blocked shots.
The Pilots are back home this week for a single game on Thursday against Santa Clara. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Chiles Center.
