PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland men's basketball fell to a hot shooting Santa Clara Broncos team by a 97-50 margin Thursday at the Chiles Center in West Coast Conference action.
The Pilots (8-17, 3-9) had two players score in double figures, led by Chris Austin, who had 12 points. Vukasin Masic added 11 points from the bench and Austin Rapp added 10 rebounds and three blocks.
Camaron Tongue scored a game-high 19 points off the bench to lead five Broncos (16-9, 8-4) in double figures.
How It Happened
Portland trailed 25-21 after a Bol Dengdit three-pointer and then Jermaine Ballisager Webb's triple made it a 28-24 deficit. Santa Clara used a 13-5 run to grab the momentum before Austin made a tough runner in the paint before the halftime buzzer to make it 41-31 at intermission.
Portland missed its first nine shot attempts of the second half as the Broncos built a 49-31 advantage. The margin continued to grow as the Pilots made just 6-of-37 shots in the second period as Santa Clara pulled away.
