VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Laura Pellicoro placed 13th in the indoor mile prelims at the 2025 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday, clocking 4:37.60 to earn Second Team All-American honors. Pellicoro is the first Pilot on the women's side to receive this accolade since 2019. Her time did not qualify her for the finals.
Despite not qualifying, it's been a dominant indoor season for Pellicoro, who set the school record in three different races this season. Pellicoro made history by running a 1,000-meter time of 2:37.04—the fastest ever recorded by a collegiate women's runner. She continued her record-breaking streak at the UW Invitational, setting a new school record in the mile with a NCAA No.5 time of 4:25.60, and at the UW Husky Classic, where she broke the 800-meter school record with an NCAA No. 7-ranked time of 2:00.92. Pellicoro now holds five school records across the 600m, 800m, 1000m, mile, and 3000m. On Jan. 21, she became the first Pilot ever to be named USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week, later earning two MPSF Athlete of the Week honors on Feb. 4 and Feb. 28. Pellicoro was named to the 2025 Bowerman Watch List, becoming the first Pilot in program history to receive this prestigious recognition.
This marks Pellicoro's third NCAA Indoor Mile appearance, previously placed 7th in the 2022 prelims and 6th in the 2024 prelims. Portland now has 17 NCAA Indoor qualifiers since 1995, including Pellicoro and Matt Strangio on the men's side.
Strangio will represent the Pilots in the men's 3,000-meter tomorrow at 4 p.m. PST. Check PortlandPilots.com for more coverage.
