PORTLAND, Ore. -- The Portland Pilots tamed the Lions with an 8-5 win on Sunday, claiming their second WCC series of the season.
Ryan Rembisz (4-1) got the win for Portland (11-17, 5-1). The southpaw went six innings, giving up five runs, all of them earned, on seven hits, allowing one walk and striking out three. Kaden Segel pitched well in relief, going three shutout innings while allowing four hits, walking none and striking out two with the save.
Offensively, the Pilots had four players earn multiple hits on the day and three hit home runs. Cole Katayama-Stall and Cody Nitowitz led the way for Portland, with Katayama-Stall batting 2-for-4 with a home run, a double and three RBI's and Nitowitz going 3-for-4. Brady Bean and Curtis Hebert each hit a home run and added two RBI's, with Bean hitting 2-for-5 and Hebert 2-for-3.
How it Happened
The Pilots got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the bottom of the first. Doyle Kane's run-scoring single highlighted a two-run inning for Portland.
The Pilots followed that up with another run in the second. Portland pushed across a run on Katayama-Stall's RBI double, which brought the Pilots lead to 3-0.
Portland's lead had disappeared once the fourth inning came around and turned into a 4-3 LMU advantage. But the Pilots didn't stay down for long, adding two to their tally on Katayama-Stall's two-run homer to right field. The Pilots led 5-4 after four innings.
The Lions then tied the game at five before Portland fought back to reclaim their advantage in the sixth inning. The Pilots scored on Bean's two-run homer, bringing the Portland advantage to 7-5. Hebert's leadoff homer in the seventh inning closed the scoring.
