SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Portland Pilots dropped Game 2 against the San Diego Toreros 3-1 on Friday, giving the Toreros the series. This is the first WCC series the Pilots have dropped this season.
Carter Gaston took the loss for Portland, starting and throwing five innings with three runs allowed, all earned, with three walks and two strikeouts. Morgan Codron threw three innings as well, allowing two hits with no runs, three K's and three walks.
The Pilots totaled just one run on five hits on Friday. The lone run came in the top of the ninth off an RBI single from Riley McCarthy, the Pilots' only multi-hit batter at 2-for-4 on the day.
How it Happened
The Toreros scored all their runs in the fourth inning, scoring on a triple and two doubles. The Pilots plated their lone run of the game in the top of the ninth after Riley McCarthy's one-run single, giving the Toreros a scare. The Pilots ultimately fell 3-1 after stranding two runners on base.

» Portland pitchers faced 38 San Diego hitters in the game, allowing 10 ground balls and eight fly balls while striking out five.
» The Pilots drew five walks from San Diego pitching.
» McCarthy led the Pilots at the plate, going 2-for-4 with an RBI. This is the fourth multi-hit game of the year for McCarthy.
» Cody Nitowitz and Jonas Salk have reached base in the 18 and 17 consecutive games respectively.
» This is the first WCC series loss for the Pilots this season.
