SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Portland Pilots dropped the series finale against the San Diego Toreros 5-4. This is the first time the Pilots have been swept in a conference series this year.
Nolan Umlandt took the loss for Portland (17-23, 9-6 WCC) after having three runs charged against him in the eighth. Ryan Rembisz started for the Pilots, throwing 6.2 innings with two runs and seven hits allowed along with five strikeouts.
The Pilots had four runs off six hits, led by a 2-for-4 outing from Riley McCarthy. McCarthy hit his second home of the season and added two RBI's as well. Cole Katayama-Stall went 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI and Coleman Hollabaugh hit his first home run as a Pilot as well.
How it Happened
The scoring began in the second inning, with Portland putting crooked numbers on the board. Riley McCarthy hit his second home run of the season to plate two runs and make it 2-0 Pilots early.
The Pilots kept it rolling in the next inning, scoring on an RBI double from Katayama-Stall to make it 3-0 Portland.
The Toreros closed the gap with two runs in the third, but Portland responded quickly. Coleman Hollabaugh hit the first homer of his Pilot career, a solo shot in the fourth inning, to make it 4-2 Portland.
The Pilots lost the lead in the eighth inning, allowing three runs in the bottom frame. Portland could not put any runs on the board, falling 5-4.

» Portland's highest scoring inning was the second, when it pushed two runs across.
» Rembisz put together 6.2 innings of two-run ball for Portland.
» Portland pitchers faced 38 San Diego hitters in the game, allowing 10 ground balls and eight fly balls while striking out five.
» McCarthy led the Pilots at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI. His home run was his second of the season.
» Hollabaugh's home run was the first of his Pilot career.
