PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Pilots dropped their series finale against the Gonzaga Bulldogs 6-4 at Joe Etzel Field. The Bulldogs clinched the series with the win.
Ryan Rembisz (4-4) took the loss, going 5.1 innings with five runs allowed, three earned. The Pilots had four runs on nine hits, including three home runs. Brady Bean, Jonas Salk and Cole Katayama-Stall each had home runs on the day, with Cole Katayama-Stall's 2-for-5 day leading the way. Tyler Howard went 2-for-5 with a double as well and Riley McCarthy was 2-for-3 as well.
How it Happened
Scoring began in the first inning, with Mikey Bell's two-run bomb giving the Zags a 2-0 lead. But the Pilots responded with a leadoff homer from Brady Bean – his ninth of the year – to cut the deficit to one.
The Pilots struck again with their second solo home run of the day, this time courtesy of Jonas Salk. Salk's solo bomb evened the score at two apiece.
Gonzaga scored three runs in the sixth inning to earn back their lead, but the Pilots cut into it quickly. Cole Katayama-Stall's two-run bomb gave Portland their third home run of the game and made it just 5-4 Gonzaga.
The Zags scored once more in eighth to make it 6-4 Bulldogs, giving Portland two innings to close the gap. The Pilots put runners in scoring position in both the eighth and ninth innings, but couldn't bring anyone home, dropping the game.
